Authentication & Photo-Matching FAQ
MeiGray uses a multi-step process:
- The team reports set wear to MeiGray as part of its official “Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program” (for example in the NHL) so MeiGray can tag and track the item.
- Items receive MeiGray registration numbers and are cataloged in their internal program database.
- For the majority of items and wherever resources allow, MeiGray performs photo-matching: comparing the actual jersey to archival images or video to identify unique characteristics (damage, stitching, stains, fabric grain) that confirm usage in a specific game or event.
You should check:
- That the item bears the MeiGray registration tag or documentation referencing MeiGray’s authentication program.
- Review the item description on MeiGray.com (or the catalogue) to confirm the tag number, team program involvement (e.g., the Team-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program) and whether the item was photo-matched.
- Contact MeiGray at sales@MeiGray.com (or via their contact page) with the tag/registration number for additional information if needed.
MeiGray Auctions & Marketplace
A 25% deposit will hold any jersey until it arrives at MGG. Balances WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY PROCESSED with the credit card on the user's profile and jerseys will be shipped when they arrive unless the collector specifically notifies MGG to call or email before processing. And in those cases, payment must be made within 10 days of notification or deposit will be forfeited.
Note: due to the automated nature of online pre-order deposits, deposit payments made via PayPal must be made directly with a MeiGray representative via a PayPal invoice. If you'd like to pay for your pre-order deposit with PayPal, please contact us at sales@meigray.com.
Refunds will not be given on canceled pre-orders. You may change from one pre-ordered jersey to another, or you can use your deposit without penalty on an individual in-stock retail-priced item of equal or greater price. Only one deposit can be used on an in-stock item if you choose to exchange a pre-order.
EXCEPTION: Full refunds will be given on pre-orders that cannot be fulfilled by the team or MGG due to non-delivery of the jersey, unavailability of the jersey due to circumstances out of the team or MGG’s control, if a player does not play in the jersey or if the jersey is retained by the club for historical purposes, or if the jersey cannot be made available due to NHL game circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
