Over the course of an NHL career that spanned 14 seasons, Phaneuf played in 1,048 games with four teams. He scored 137 goals and 494 points while amassing 1,345 penalty minutes. Phaneuf was a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy for the Rookie of the Year in 2006, finishing in third place and earning a sport on the All-Rookie team. He made the NHL's First All-Star Team the in 2008, when he was also a finalist for the James Norris Memorial Trophy for the league's top defender, finishing second. He received votes for the Norris Trophy in eight different seasons and was selected for the NHL's All-Star Game on three occasions.
