It was purchased for $3,750 by a private collector in August 1997 at the East Coast National in White Plains, New York.

The jersey has changed hands and been re-registered by four collectors since 1997.

This jersey, worn by Brian Leetch during his Calder Trophy-winning 1988-89 rookie season, is photo-matched to two photos from a road game in November 1988. Match points include threading on the bottom of the "N", stains on "R", thread bottom of "2", collar popping and marks on the "S."

The legendary offensive defenseman spent 17 seasons with the Rangers, scoring two goals with 12 assists in 17 games as a 19-year-old in 1988-89. His resume includes two Norris Trophies and the all-important Conn Smythe in 1994 after the Rangers broke their 54-year Stanley Cup drought. The 2009 Hall of Fame inductee scored 240 goals with 741 assists in 1,129 games with the Rangers and 247 goals with 781 assists in 1,205 career NHL games.
