The jersey is photo-matched to the Canucks' 3-2 loss to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on October 4, 1997 at Yoyogi Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In his 20th season in the NHL, Messier played in all 82 games for the Vancouver Canucks. He finished second on the team in scoring with 22 goals and 38 assists.

During an NHL career that spanned 25 seasons, Messier played in 1,756 games. He scored 694 goals, made 1,903 assists, and finished with 1,887 points, good for third all-time in assists and points. He won six Stanley Cups, two Hart Trophies, two Pearson Awards, one Conn Smythe Trophy, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.
