Ryan Whitney and Mark Recchi earned the assist on Malkin's first career goal in the game, which tied the score at 1-1 at 18:38 of the second period.

Malkin went on to score goals in his first six career games and finished his rookie season with 33 goals with 52 assists in 2006-07, winning the Calder Trophy. Two years later, he won both the Art Ross and Conn Smythe Trophies on the way to his first of three Stanley Cups to date.
