Holtby stopped 19 of 20 shots as the Capitals defeated the St. Louis Blues, 5-1, at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, MO.

Holtby was named the 2016-17 Vezina Trophy winner, with his accomplishments including a 48-9-7 record in 66 starts, a .922 save percentage, a 2.20 goals against average, and three shutouts. He also finished fourth in the Hart Memorial Trophy voting. It was his second of three consecutive seasons with 40+ victories.

Holtby helped bring the Stanley Cup to D.C. for the first time the following season, winning back his starting netminder job in the Eastern Conference First Round and earning each one of the Capitals' victories in net during the 2018 Playoffs. He also posted a .922 save percentage, a 2.16 goals against average, and two shutouts in 23 games (22 starts).

Holtby totaled a record of 282-122-46 as a Capital, with 35 shutouts in 468 games (458 starts) as well as becoming an icon in the Capitals' community.
